You’ve settled into your Hideaway, unpacked your things and had a soak in your hot tub together. You’ve took it all in, but what next? How about getting dressed up and having a romantic night out just the two of you.

With the V&A museum nearing completion, Dundee has become more vibrant than ever, with some fabulous restaurants popping up, great cocktail bars and even its very own Speakeasy! Living in Dundee I have had the opportunity to try out these great restaurants and bars and I’ve put together the perfect night out plan for you to follow during your stay. I’ve thought of everything from making sure the places are close together so you don’t have to walk too far to the taxi stop conveniently being at your last stop on the night. A romantic yet effortless night out.

Dinner at 172 At The Caird

A historical building reclaimed and transformed into a unique and vibrant restaurant conveniently set out for both casual and fine dining. The 172 At The Caird has a separate cocktail and wine bar for pre-dinner drinks and you can even ask to be seated in their piano lounge where they will have someone playing a beautiful grand piano during your meal. The 172 At The Caird overlooks the stunning river Tay and offers an authentic Scottish cuisine with a tantalising Mediterranean twist. They cater for even the fussiest eaters. The interior in this place is so luxurious and it has a great atmosphere making for the perfect romantic backdrop.

Post meal drinks

Cocktails and craft beer at The Beer Kitchen by Innis & Gunn – You can go straight here to try some of The Beer Kitchens’ wide range of craft beers and attractive cocktails. According to google, it’s just a 3-minute walk from your restaurant!

Cocktails and an atmosphere at the Jute Café Bar – Just across the road you will find the DCA (Dundee Contemporary Arts). Dundee Contemporary Arts is a world-class centre for the development and exhibition of contemporary art and culture and it has a lovely open plan bar where they serve stunning cocktails. The bar is separated into an area where there is more hustle and bustle with a lively atmosphere but in the back, it has candle lit tables for two.

How will you end your night?

1.       A late-night movie at the DCA after your drinks, they have later showings at 9pm. Once your movie is finished there is a taxi collection right outside to take you back to your peaceful Hideaway.

2.        From the DCA head to Dundee’s Speakeasy. Dundee’s new secret bar, Draffens, is the talk of the town. Details for this place cannot be found anywhere! We’ll let you in on the secret though. Down an alley way between 36 and 38 Nethergate in Dundee City centre there is a back door which looks like an entrance to a kitchen, open it and you’ll feel like you have stepped back in time, as you are directed down some stairs you will hear the jazz music playing in the basement bar. The atmosphere in this place is really something special, something different. Once you have had some cocktails make your way back out and there is a taxi collection area right across the road.

3.       Get your dancing shoes on and make a night of it. If you want to keep your night going visit Clarks on Lindsay Street where the atmosphere is electric. They have live bands, energetic bar staff and fantastic music playing until 2.30am. A taxi collection is directly outside the front door too!
