Angus is home to the finest meat and the most famous Scotch Beef PGI in the world, Aberdeen Angus.


On our farm we rear Aberdeen Angus cross Hereford Cattle. You will see our cattle if you go for a walk up up the beautiful Sidlaw Hills. 


Here at the Hideaway Experience, we are lucky to be surrounded by so many ionic Scottish food and drink businesses. One of those, is our favourite butcher, the award winning James Pirie & Son, who provide a range of amazing locally sourced food. 


James Pirie & Son’s is just a short 15 min drive to the nearby Angus village of Newtyle. Established in 1960, they have many years of experience and with currently 188 awards, it is not just us who loves what they have to offer.


Challenged to pick our top 5 favourite foods (there are more than 5!) from their 70 speciality dishes, we would need to go with, in no particular order:


  • Sirloin steaks
  • Pork and caramelised red onion sausages
  • Hand cured back bacon
  • Award winning Haggis
  • Steak Pie

Scottish Sausage and Haggis Champions,  James Pirie & Son have recently won the 2020 World Scotch Pie Championship, making this butcher an absolute must try for meat lovers.
